Ramadan is upon us and with it the challenge of continuing to work. Fortunately, the pandemic of the past two years taught us how to work flexibly and virtually. Flex-time and hybrid work can be extremely beneficial this month, giving people the ability to conserve their energy while still getting the job done.

This is also a great time to come together as a workforce, share support and education and even build a stronger bond as a team.

Here are five ways you can support each other during the month of Ramadan.

Give Back

If your company already has a CSR charity or cause it supports, now is a great time to remind your employees. Bring awareness to the cause and invite employees to participate or promote it.

If you don’t already have a programme in place, now is a great time to focus on your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Since everyone is in a spiritual mindset, now is a unique time to invite employees to share ideas for how your company can improve its charity portfolio.

Share with the Expats

Chances are your team is made up of a large portion of expats. Keep in mind that they may not be as familiar with Ramadan traditions as the rest of your employees. Create an awareness campaign educating them on the traditions and purpose of the Holy Month and invite them to learn more.

Make a Gratitude Board (or Channel)

This is a season of spiritual purification. Nothing elevates our minds and attitudes more than gratitude. Consider creating a gratitude board in the office where people can post what they are grateful for. Place it somewhere that will get seen often to help people remember their gratitude and lift their spirits.

If you’re working virtually, an online chat or forum for sharing gratitude can be just as effective.

Share Safe Fasting Practices

Fasting can be immensely beneficial both for physical and spiritual health. But it comes with its challenges. Encourage your team to fast safely by offering tips on hydration, food portioning and breaking fasts correctly.

Have an Iftar Meal

As Dubai is returning to normal, host an Iftar with your team – while still following safety measures.

Often, we have numerous invitations and events held over Iftar. It may not always be possible to meet in person. Build a sense of community by breaking a fast together over your company’s video conferencing platform. This is also a wonderful way to join in Ramadan traditions and experience the culture when your team is working remotely.

This is a time to be gentle with each other, conserve energy and practice cultivating workplace well-being. We at OLAM Group wish you peace, happiness and health during the Holy Month.
